Oklahoma Oil Expansion: Utilizing Unconventional Technology to Develop Conventional Targets

Oklahoma’s Anadarko Basin, one of the world’s super basins, is currently known for horizontal drilling in the Woodford Shale, the principal source rock in the basin. However, above the Woodford, many attractive oil and gas reservoirs have been pursued with vertical technology over the past 100 years. As one of the deepest basins in the United States, with horizontal Woodford wells routinely drilled between 14,000 to 17,000 FT TVD, there is a lot of rock above the source in which hydrocarbons have accumulated.

Lynx Oklahoma Operating is focused on developing targets for horizontal drilling within and adjacent to existing legacy fields in the Anadarko Basin, specifically Caddo County, Oklahoma. After analyzing multiple targets in Caddo County, including the deep Woodford, Meramec, Springer, Red Fork and multiple Hoxbar reservoirs, Lynx decided to initiate its horizontal program targeting crude oil in the Hoxbar Marchand. The Hoxbar Marchand is a sandstone oil reservoir with a typical gravity of 42 to 48 degrees API at 9,500 FT to 10,500 FT TVD, historically developed utilizing conventional vertical technology since the mid-1960s.

Legacy vertical Hoxbar Marchand wells vary in performance. Many are marginal vertical producers and vertical wells drilled but never completed for various reasons, including reservoir properties deemed commercially unproductive, commodity prices and operator challenges. Lynx’s Chief Executive Officer Nelson Bolen states, “These variables provide an attractive dynamic when analyzing conventional reservoirs for modern horizontal unconventional development, as the vertical penetrations provide a detailed subsurface database, showcase producibility, but leave most of the oil behind.” Although vertical Hoxbar Marchand development was in thicker, clean sandstones and thinner, dirtier sandstones, prospects in the thinner, dirtier rock were often not developed beyond the first few wells. This provides an opportunity to add value utilizing modern unconventional technology on legacy conventional rock.

According to Al Warner, senior vice president of geology, “Lynx’s geological approach was to first construct a series of detailed cross sections wherein individual sandstone benches, generally 5’ to 25’ but, in some instances, up to 50’ were correlated. These individual benches were then mapped over their entire extent, providing targets that, in many cases, extend beyond the known limits of a given field or play. In a number of instances, this detailed ‘splitting’ of the sandstones included mapping and extending the shalier sandstones over broader areas which have proven commercially productive.”

When targeting sandstones, like the Hoxbar Marchand, the gamma ray log is not the gospel when identifying productive or nonproductive rock. Other factors must be considered during drilling to stay in the optimum interval. Hydrocarbon shows both gas and oil provide excellent evidence of potentially productive rock, but are not always easily identified, especially when drilling with weighted oil-based mud. Rate of penetration is another excellent leading indicator that is utilized during geosteering and for target changes.

Utilizing Best Methods for Internet Design and style with Iterative Methodologies

Views expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their have.

Carving out the contours to any job daily life span is constantly very best structured with a steady framework to floor its basis. Numerous electronic style agencies navigate their approaches and workflows with various methods that operate best for them. Nonetheless, a methodology that a lot of UI/UX firms have embraced, which include our individual design company, is the iterative design and style solution

Iterative entails a a great deal more versatile and dynamic mode to layout. It neatly intersects with an agile workflow as it cycles involving design, prototype and screening until eventually the overarching goal is realized. Typically executed in sprints, iterative has propelled internet designers with efficiency, diminished overhead costs and capabilities as an ode to putting the user at the middle of any style.

Having said that, iterative methodologies are only as efficient as the workforce that implements them and can be reached with finest practices that embody these flexible strategies.

A target on the user

Consumer practical experience style constantly develops new techniques that heart the person around its style choices. Consumer working experience design is effective in tandem with an iterative website structure strategy. It focuses on how to subsequently make a style far better as the timeline of a challenge rolls out. When incorporating iterative style and design strategies, that emphasis on the consumer should by no means change murky or become dropped in the approach.

Iterative workflows function very best when they continuously scrape away at layout aspects that may possibly be clouding the working experience with cognitive friction. Despite the fact that collaboration and responses with a company/client act as the backbone to iterative, remaining conscious of the need to align structure with a manufacturer identity also informs the user’s overall expertise.

Inside of the iterative cycles, style and design parts that want to be modified all over should be concentrating on how to take out style and design muddle. Collaborative cycles inside iterative design can be certain that there is no visual litter. Navigation is apparent as journeys lead to corresponding expectations and information is not abstruse. These can be cleaned up and improved with iterative versioning in visual hierarchies, user mapping and aligning style with a company’s branding for regularity. A concentration on these main details can take away cognitive friction considering the fact that iterative style and design is persistently enhancing along the way and can mend glitches previously in the progress procedure.

An openness to suggestions

A design device that may perhaps normally be neglected can be something as basic as responses. No matter whether it occurs from inside workforce realignment or collaboration with a consumer to showcase a working design, suggestions genuinely informs the style and design when the system is iterative. Reconceptualizing iterative methodologies as a philosophy allows integrate it a lot extra seamlessly within just design companies until eventually it gets to be 2nd mother
